Tax Advisor (FCA) with 30 years experience. Principal of Jupp Consulting, advising family-owned companies, expanding entrepreneurial companies and HNW individuals.

Dr Andrew Jupp was formerly a PhD research scientist who retrained as a Chartered Accountant, specialising in providing practical, easy-to-understand tax advice. He established Jupp Consulting (www.juppconsulting.co.uk) seven years ago, having been an equity partner in a Big 4 firm and National Head of Tax for a top 10 firm.

Jupp Consulting is an independent practice providing a range of practical & commercial strategic, tax and business advice in diverse areas.

We provide practical and commercial tax advice to help our clients maximise their potential. We do not hide behind technical jargon, although we have a wealth of tax and general business knowledge.

Jupp Consulting specialises in providing tax and general strategic advice to owner-managed businesses, fast-growth entrepreneurial businesses and small PLCs. We also provide advice to early-stage UK subsidiaries of foreign-owned parents where the issues encountered are very similar to those of a UK-based entrepreneurial business. We have considerable expertise in advising high-net worth individuals with family tax planning issues and succession planning for future generations.

Jupp Consulting also provides specialist tax advice to small independent firms of accountants which do not have the in-house depth of expertise.

With over 30 years’ experience of working with privately-owned companies, Andrew provides non-executive director services, helping management teams to shape the future of the business, focus on strategic priorities, and plan for the future exit strategy. Andrew also acts as a Non-Executive Director to smaller firms of accountants which want to benefit from his experience and skills.

Andrew writes and broadcasts on tax issues affecting owner-managed businesses and has appeared on BBC Radio 4’s flagship Today programme and a range of local TV and radio programmes.

Our advice to entrepreneurs and their businesses is relevant, practical, easy-to-understand and cost-effective. We answer the questions you didn't know you needed to ask! We cover a wide range of issues from early-stage funding (SEIS/EIS),  R&D tax credits and the Patent Box, corporate reorganisations and M&A transactions, extraction of funds, share incentives, expanding into new markets, and finally exiting the business so as to extract the maximum value in the most tax-efficient way. For high-net worth individuals and their families we ensure that personal aspirations are managed and that future generations of the family are protected and provided for.

Andrew is also an experienced business valuer and Expert Witness, particularly in matrimonial proceedings, and in agreeing values with HMRC for private transactions.

The journey from thought to finish can be fraught with hurdles, particularly in the area of tax, but our role is to make this as painless as possible whilst you concentrate on building your business. Whether it be taking an established business and growing it to the next stage, or starting from an initial idea, our range of tax and commercial advice will help you navigate the minefield you face. Successful entrepreneurs are those who realise that they don’t need to completely re-invent the wheel; others have been there and done it and have the necessary expertise, in our case, tax. We bring the insight and knowledge we have built up through working with many businesses, which together with your ideas, insight and passion gives you the best chance of succeeding.

Andrew is also co-founder of a specialist IP consultancy - aproposIP - which provides advice on the commercialisation, exploitation, and tax-structuring for IP-rich companies (www.aproposIP.com).
