With over 20 years’ experience in the expatriate tax arena, Richard has experience of advising both corporate and private clients.
I spent the former part of my career within the Big 4 at Ernst & Young gaining an in-depth knowledge on a wide range of expatriate matters and working with large multi-national organisations. I furthered my career at Chiltern and, more recently, as a Senior Manager with BDO, focusing on mid-tier companies with small to medium sized international workforces and individual private clients.
I have a breadth of knowledge in advising on the tax, social security, payroll and reward related matters all commonly associated with the movement of individuals into and out of the UK. I specialise in assisting companies looking to move employees cross border, focusing on; assignment policy and assignment letter design and review, tax and social security planning and tax equalisation/protection implementation.
I can provide home and host country payroll advice and the related corporate obligations including implementation and running of shadow and modified payrolls, social security advice including certificate of coverage (A1) applications, short term business visitor reviews and HMRC agreement applications.
In terms of UK taxes, I am able to assist with personal UK tax return preparation, arrival and departure tax planning including Statutory Residence Test reviews and advice for non-residents retaining UK property interests.
On the US tax side, I can advise on the US tax filing system, assist in preparing Federal and State tax returns (including filing under the streamlined system), foreign bank forms, passive foreign investment company (PFIC) matters or provide general assistance when dealing with US tax issues.
