Michael Ashdown

I provide VAT and indirect tax advice and cover London, Surrey and the Thames Valley area.

A large amount of my time is spent looking at VAT issues as they affect property or businesses that trade internationally. I also provide assistance to firms that provide professional services, especially in relation to their own internal processes.

I work with clients in running training courses and workshops for their staff to ensure that their staff have a good understand of indirect tax and are kept up to date on recent changes.  I have looked at the VAT & Customs treatment of warehousing in a number of jurisdictions  and have worked with a number of clients in applying for Customs warehousing and other customs authorisations.  I have experience of the VAT & vouchers regime as I was part of a team that met with the Treasury prior to the introduction of the new rules.  I  have assisted clients in disputes with HMRC including attending ADR hearings and taking appeals to the First Tier Tax Tribunal. 

I work with High Net Worth clients and their advisers providing advice on the ownership/operation of yachts and aircraft as well as the ownership of works of art.

I started my career at HM Customs & Excise (as was) and have worked over the years at a number of large firms.  

I am a Chartered Tax Advisor and was chair of the London Branch of the CIOT.  I am a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Tax Advisers.
