Simon Howley

I am the co-founder of Bell Howley Perrotton, and I have over 25+ years of experience working within City law firms and accountancy practices.

I am a member of the Association of Taxation Technicians, The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) and the Institute of Financial Accountants.

I also co-host The Property Planet podcast, voted one of the best property podcasts in 2023. 

My practice covers all tax-related property transactions, particularly Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) in England and Northern Ireland, Land Taxation Tax (LTT) in Wales, and Land and Buildings Taxation Tax (LBTT) in Scotland.

My practice also covers Private Client and Corporate Tax, including advising on Capital Gains Tax (CGT), Inheritance Tax (IHT), Company Restructuring, Anti-Avoidance Tax, Family Investment Companies and Estate Planning.

I sit on the Property Taxes Subcommittee of the CIOT’s Technical Policy and Oversight Committee. The subcommittees are all heavily involved in consultation with the Government, both publicly and privately, on proposed tax legislation.   I am a Stamp Taxes Practitioners Group (STPG) member, the leading professional forum for stamp tax practitioners with over 200 members. 

Finally, I am also the sole author of the Stamp Duty Land Tax section of the isruv website of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. It is subscribed to by most of the major UK surveying firms, many local authorities, RICS-accredited universities, and some major non-surveying firms.
