Claire Rylatt

I trained with the ‘big 4’ accountancy firm KPMG and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2005. After qualifying I moved into industry for 7 years, most recently working at the medical research organisation Huntingdon Life Sciences where I was Group Financial Controller. In 2011 I applied for my practicing Certificate and set up my own accountancy practice Cooper Rylatt. I was appointed as a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales in 2015 and I became a Chartered Tax Advisor in 2025.

My practice is in Derby, although my clients are based throughout the UK. I also provide technical accounting and tax support to a firm of accountants with offices in London and Cape Town (c. 30 employees). My work for them has included the following:

• Setting up EMI schemes
• Incorporation of sole trader businesses
• Tax planning on closure of companies via formal liquidation
• Preparation of consolidated accounts for small PLC
• Amendments to corporation tax returns for R&D claims
• Director tax planning
• Advising clients on ATED reporting requirements
• Preparation of self-assessment tax returns for clients with more complex international affairs
• Writing papers about tax planning opportunities to share with staff and clients
