Risk Management - Avoiding negligence claims

Join us on the afternoon of Thursday 26th May for this topical full half day seminar in London.

Over the last year the professional press has repeatedly referenced a growing awareness of the need for effective risk management to limit the prospect of negligence claims. The most recent scare story follows the increase in the limit to £10m for entrepreneurs' relief.

This seminar has never been more topical or important.

The seminar will be presented by Mark Lee, FCA CTA (Fellow), Chairman of the Tax Advice Network and a past Chairman of the ICAEW Tax Faculty. This is an updated version of a seminar Mark has presented to thousands of accountants across the UK in recent years. It draws on his practical experience from the days when he was a tax partner and a tax consultant. He also shares tips and advice that derive from his experience as an expert witness and conversations with PI insurers.

Amongst the topics covered will be:

Understanding which common scenarios lead to claims
Recognising what goes wrong in practice
Avoiding the traps your clients set
Tips and commercial ideas to limit your risks
Evidencing ‘reasonable care’ to avoid penalties
• Avoiding disciplinary hearings and prison

The 4 key options for dealing with business risk
• Techniques to control your PI premiums
• Avoiding the trap that often invalidates PI policies
• What needs to be proved when a claim is made?
• Tempting but typically poor defences
• Practical advice to minimise the risk of a claim
• How to dump the duff d-list clients who cause most problems
