Protecting your practice from Negligence Claims and Worse
If you are in practice and have any fears about the risks that you run you'll want to learn what you can do to reduce them. Hundreds of accountants have attended this seminar over the last few years and the feedback is always very positive. It's now bang uptodate with reference to recent developments and the impact of the new penalties regime with its obligation to take 'reasonable care'.
This is a unique and valuable seminar full of practical and commercial ideas and advice for general practitioners as well as for anyone advising on tax issues.
Mark Lee, FCA CTA (Fellow), Chairman of the Tax Advice Network and a past Chairman of the ICAEW Tax Faculty, shares tips and lessons drawn from his extensive experience in practice and from acting as an expert witness in court.
Although no longer in practice himself Mark still works closely with dozens of accountants. He has also presented variations of this seminar to hundreds of accountants all over the UK with VERY positive feedback on every occasion.
Amongst the topics addressed are:
-
The all too common scenarios that lead to claims
-
The increased risk of allegations during a recession
-
What goes wrong in practice
-
Evidencing 'reasonable care' to avoid penalties
-
Avoiding disciplinary hearings
-
Techniques to control your PI premiums
-
Avoiding the trap that often invalidates PI policies
-
What needs to be proved when a claim is made?
-
Tempting but typically poor defences
-
Tax issues and topics that can so easily lead to claims
-
Dozens of tips and practical advice to minimise the risks of a claim
-
Why you need to think carefully before suing for unpaid fees
-
How to dump the duff d-list clients who cause most problems
