Using the Forums

The Forums are for tax advisers and can only accessed by registered members. The following notes are intended to help you find your way around.

The fourms are a facility for members to communicate with each other in a way that enables us all to 'see' and join in the 'conversation' if it's of interest or relevance.

Updates - About network. For the dissemination and discussion of information that is not appropriate for the public parts of the website

Work referrals - This is where Mark posts work referrals arising from the people he meets or those who contact him directly. It's alos where othewr members can post work that they want to pass on or where they need volunteers who are interested and available to help out.

Taxtalk - The technical stuff. There has yet to be any demand to split this into distinct streams, but the facility exists to do so.

Business matters - shariing best practice, asking for ideas and input - as distinct from Tax talk as such.

TAN website - There are two main forums under this heading. One for ideas and suggestions for things we could do in the future. The other is for the reporting of bugs/problems and how/when these have been resolved.

New threads

Any registered member can contribute to a discussion thread or start a new one.

Just click on the forum title and the forum will open up and reveal the topics under discussion. On the right had side of the screen is a button for when you want to start discussing a new topic.

This approach will be familiar to those members who contribute to other forums elsewhere. If you're new to the concept, please experiment and ask for help if you get stuck.

Facilities

The Forums home page shows how many topics are being discussed in each forum, how many comment (replies) there are and an extract from the most recent post in the fourm.

Above the forums are links to:

  • The fourms home page
  • Your profile page
  • A list of your posts on the forums - the benefit of this will become apparent when you've been using the forums for a while.
  • A log out facility - there's no reason to use this unless you're on a shared computer (unlikely).
  • Search forum - this is quite separate to the main search function for the website. That search excludes the Forums.
