About us and our independent tax support

The Tax Advice Network contains a free to use online search facility that helps you find the specialist tax adviser that you need - safe in the knowledge that they meet key minimum competence criteria.

Chairman of the UK's first independent network of tax advisers is Mark Lee. He was a tax adviser himself for 25 years and has been a partner in two top firms. He was Chairman of the ICAEW Tax Faculty from 2003-2005 and is a highly regarded speaker, writer and blogger on issues related to the accountancy and tax world. He personally interviews every new adviser who claims to meet our strict membership criteria before they can join the Network. Mark also has ambitious plans for the network drawing on his many years of experience in the profession and his involvement in both offline and online membership communities.

Over 2,000 accountants and other advisers have registered with the Network and over two dozen specialist tax advsiers have joined in order to benefit from the marketing and other facilities provided for their businesses. These include additional exposure to their target audience and being part of an exclusive and supportive community of independent tax advisers.

Membership of the Network is limited to tax specialists who are able to satisfy our membership criteria and who are willing to make a commitment to the Network and the members thereof.

The primary target audiences for the network are people, businesses and accountants with challenging tax questions and problems. After all even the best accountants sometimes need specialist tax support. And anyone can use the site if they don't have an accountant or doubt their accountant's ability to resolve the tax issue in question.

What's it all about?

Accountants are attracted to use the Network to identify tax specialists as, unlike most alternative providers of tax support services, we are not a large consultancy, part of an accountancy practice or burdened by high overheads that lead to high charges - certainly as compared with those consultancies based in London.

Users simply identify who they wish to contact, by reference to detailed profiles, articles, ratings, testimonials or whatever elements thereof they prefer. The chosen tax adviser can then be contacted by email or telephone using the contact details on their profile.

Users are encouraged to provide feedback, by way of ratings and testimonials, to assist subsequent users of the site.

In addition to work referrals members benefit from being part of a unique marketing-led member services and networking organisation for independent tax specialists. Although many members belong to one of the professional bodies, others are qualified through experience perhaps having previously worked for the Inland Revenue or for Customs. Most of our members work from home and before joining the network they had little in the way of backup or the professional and marketing support that they are now able to secure through the network.

Our ambitions

- to attract and retain as members a majority of quality independent tax advisers in the UK;

- to attract and retain as professional members all those accountants who value the tax support, benefits and opportunities we provide;

- to position the network as offering the full spectrum of tax advice and support;

- to secure a reputation for connecting tax advisers with accountants (and vice versa), which result in viable business partnerships for the longer-term;

- to add value and provide the impetus for the growth of individual members' businesses

- to make this network the tax advisers' facility of choice;

- to provide a range of additional business benefits and opportunities for all members; and

- to achieve such a reputation for the network that it is acknowledged as the only credible tax network that is independent of the professional bodies.
